Step 4. Finding my new home
Ideally, by this time you will know what you really can afford (or are willing to admit to), have narrowed down your choices to a couple of home types and which neighborhoods you are willing to consider (assuming they are in your price range). If you haven't, there's no time like the present (click here for wish list / reality check list) With this information in hand, your home search will be much more focused and efficient and your agent will be really grateful. On the other hand, the list of criteria you have set for your home search should not be so rigid that you may miss some great opportunities, unless of course you are willing to look for a long time.
In addition, despite all your good efforts to prepare in advance, it is close to impossible to remove the emotional side of the process and remain completely objective. The better you are at controlling your emotions the more you will reduce the possibilities of buyer's remorse. You can let it all out once you have the keys in your hand.

Fluffy real estate terms (euphemisms and lingo) used to describe homes for sale. One activity that a lot of agents don't look forward to is attempting to wax lyrical about the homes they are listing on the market. You have probably come across phrases such as cute, needs some love, fixer upper, peek-a-boo views etc. It can't be denied, but real estate agents are in the sales business and hence prone to using "salesy" terms. Also, when it comes time for you to sell your own home I'm sure you would like the agent to massage the truth a little to present your home in the best light possible.
I recently saw this newspaper article discussing just such lingo....... In an episode of the Simpsons which features Marge as a real estate agent who is scolded by Red Jacket Realty broker Lionel Hutz for having a "no-pressure approach."
Marge: "Well, like we say: 'The right house for the right person.' " Hutz: "Listen, it's time I let you in on a little secret, Marge. The right house is the house that's for sale. The right person is anyone." To drive home his point, Hutz shows her photos of houses for sale. Marge: "It's awfully small. ... " Hutz: "I'd say it's awfully — cozy!" Marge: "That's dilapidated... . " Hutz: "Rustic!" Marge: "That house is on fire!" Hutz: "Motivated seller!"
